That grocery store stalwart of (reasonably woke) shoppers Smart Chicken is now a Tyson brand, as the mega-food conglomerate swallows yet another medium sized fish. Rest easy, however – it’s totally great news :
Tyson’s Chief Marketing Officer for poultry Eric Schwartz says acquiring this brand will help the company offer more choices for consumers.
Whew. I thought concentrating virtually all of our meat production in the hands of two or three companies might be a bad idea. But choices!
We had – and have – better choices anyway. Plenty of farmers market vendors sell whole, properly-raised chickens and Hickory Hill Pastures has frozen cuts for the shortcut-takers (yours truly). Find them at the market or at the Clovers on Chapel Hill.
