Coming to Columbia: Taco Truck

Everyone knows Columbia needs a taco truck, right? Well, what if I told you a buddy of mine and I were hijacking the Fat Chicks Chow Wagon next Friday and turning it into a taco truck for a day? You wouldn’t believe me, would you? The awesome would be just too much. Well believe it, son, cuz it’s happening.

From 11:00 am until 2:00 pm (or when we run out of food) next Friday, October 21 we’ll be slinging Mexican-style tacos somewhere downtown. Location, menu items, pricing are TBD for now, but tacos, beans and rice will be had. From a truck. It may not be taco boat, but it’s the closest I’m going to get. Props to Lisa for letting us borrow her ride for the day.

Note: All proceeds (after food costs) will be donated to Family Counseling Center of Missouri

Big Star’s Taco Truck, by the Numbers

Big Star did it. It went rogue. It delivered hot tacos from an unlicensed food truck on a dark street in the West Loop. For dessert: handbills urging you to call your alderman and protest food truck restrictions. Since we don’t take sides in such weighty matters, here’s our objective report on Consuelo, the Big Star Food Truck, strictly by the numbers.

Time food truck was scheduled to debut at the MCA: 6:30pm
Time @PaulKahan announced the location had changed: 6:21pm
Time it took us to get to the new location at Fulton and Wood: 13 minutes
Amount we paid for the taxi: $15
Amount we paid for the tacos: $0
Number of people standing in line at 6:43pm: 12
Percentage of people who looked like they came from the “We Are the 99 Percent” rally: 25
Percentage who looked like they may have put up that “We Are the 1 Percent” sign: 25
Number of people pepper-sprayed with salsa: 0
    Varieties of tacos available: 2
Percentage of tacos containing pork belly: 50
Number of Chicago aldermen listed on handbill with contact information: 50
Number of aldermen in attendance: 0
Number whose votes might be swayed by a good taco: figures not available at this time

Consuelo, the Big Star Food Truck, follow it on Twitter (@BigStarTruck) for its next trip

  3. That kind of sucks for you, Pam, because I happen to have insider knowledge that, “double layer corn tortilla-onion-cilantro-lime-carnita-filled goodness” will be making an appearance. Come on, you guys aren’t busy yet at 11 a.m., come give to the best kind of charity around: the kind where you get hopefully decent food in return…from a truck… 🙂
