The summer of riesling

Riesling is getting tons of pub this summer. Bon Appetit, The Chicago Tribune, GQ and others have gotten in on the action. The whole of Boston is celebrating the grape. Good thing it’s worth the hype.

Now, most of us tend to think about sugar when we hear “riesling.” And you can find the sugary stuff, but every sommelier’s favorite white grape is actually more often balanced with acidity and refreshing – and perfect for summer.

I got a nice bottle of Frisk from Wine on Washington (Mexico, MO) and there’s a very good riesling from Oregon’s Foris winery by the glass at Babbo’s Spaghetteria right now. Light, crisp, the perfect way to start a meal. Here’s to the summer of riesling!
