Weekly Wrap

First and foremost our thoughts are with our friends in Joplin, which may never be the same. More info and ways to help here.

Onto the food: There’s an Iron Chef-style competition (where you get to be a judge for $20) Wednesday at the Columbia Area Career Center – get the scoop. My good buddy Tom Anderson hit 9 (horse) racetracks in 8 days with his, um, colorful father. It’s a good read, even if you don’t know the guys. There’s a (pretty lame) campaign underway to retire Ronald McDonald. The cork vs. cap debate is still a touchy one in the wine world.

Also, I’ll be on KFRU Friday morning at about 9:15. We’ll be talking about “Underrated Columbia,” spotlighting the places and products that might be getting overlooked. Let me know if you have nominations (eateries, grocery store items, farmers market stuff, whatever). Item #1 for me: Blue Diamond almonds (ie, “cracknuts“).

  1. The two restaurant dishes I tend to crave every few months or so are: The kimchi stew at Kojaba Korean Restaurant and the pollo con hongos at Tequila Mexican Restaurant.

  2. You need to go try Sky Hi Grill. The Columbia Library is a great place, even if weird looking. They have cookbooks, and cooking magazines, and you can do a lot of library stuff online.
