Newman Farm will once again be welcoming a few dozen lucky pork enthusiasts to their southern Missouri farm next weekend. The annual event – called “Pork, Fork, Cork…and Lamb Farm to Table” is this Sunday, May 15 (and is now just $50). It’s a long but beautiful drive down to Myrtle – but very much worth it. Give it some thought. If you don’t make it to southern Missouri, be sure to hit the farmers market for breakfast Saturday. The Culinary Arts students will be flipping omelets and raising money to send one of their own to the national Skills USA competition.

In other news…Eric has a very nice series of photos of the wildflowers popping up on his farm north of Columbia. The Columbia Beer Enthusiasts have their spring and summer schedules out. The must-read of the week goes to this New Yorker piece, written by a guy embedded in a Chinese tour of Europe. Naturally, The Daily Showdid a nice job with Osama’s big send-off. Among the Columbia restaurants unveiling spring menus these days are Red and Moe and Bleu Restaurant & Wine Bar. Surely there are others. Who else has revamped their lineup for warmer weather?

  1. Sadly, Phil Stewart from the Columbia Farmers Market passed away on Saturday after a long battle with cancer. We got the news right around opening bell of the market (fitting somehow). Funeral is on Thursday, with local-foods reception afterwards at the Stewarts’. Details at http://www.columbiafarmersmarket.org
