Five Guys Burgers and Fries open soon

This is why you're (going to be) fat.

The fries – greasy, a little soggy and to me, wonderful – aren’t for everone, but Five Guys’ burgers are undeniably awesome. Better, in my opinion, than even mighty Booches. And they’ll be opening soon in Columbia. One location (pictured above) is nearly completed in the Shoppes at Stadium, next to PetSmart. Time to get your workout regimen in order.

  1. I try to avoid chains if possible, unless I’m traveling and stuck at the side of the Interstate. The experience is just not worth it.

  2. I’ve never tried Five Guys despite living minutes away both here and in DC. Just don’t like burgers that unless they made of bison. Enjoy DC this weekend, Scott.

  3. At least 5 Guys announces nutritional information so you can make an educated (even if not particularly smart) choice about your burger.

And here’s the surprise. The most calorific 5 Guys burger, the bacon cheeseburger, is 920 calories (the least, the plain burger, is 700). That’s a lot of calories. But that is fewer calories than the LEAST calorific burger at Ruby Tuesday; their burgers range from 929 calories for the classic up to 1332 for the triple prime bacon cheeseburger. It’s similar for other “upscale” chains offering burgers, including Outback, Red Robin, etc.

5 Guys also has “little” burgers, which range from 480 to 630 calories. Their fries aren’t my favorite, but they’re about the same as other fries; 310 calories per serving, or, for an entire regular sized fries (which is pretty big) 620 calories.

Not an everyday meal, but not as bad as it could be…

  4. The Stadium place is looking pretty close to done at this point. I think they’re shooting for a May 1 opening day. No idea about the Broadway Bluffs location.
