First Take: Anthony’s Italian Restaurant

Answering the call for more low-end Italian food in town (cheese sticks! sweet marinara!)  Anthony’s Italian Restaurant is now open. The new owners have kept Felini’s odd, ornate chairs and orange-on-beige interior, but have spruced things up a bit with a little hotel art, though. So there’s that.

Intrigued by an Add Sheet promo touting their homemade spaghetti, I stopped by for an early lunch recently. That homemade spaghetti? It really is homemade, or at least fresh. And even if my salad was nothing more than hacked up romaine in a bowl…and even if the pasta had spent thirty seconds or so too long in the water…and even if the sauce – “reeeeally sweet” according to my waitress – was indeed way too sweet, none of it was actually bad. Certainly not bad enough to grump about the $7 price tag. Hell, it even came with two giant pieces of paprika-bombed garlic bread. So, a deal, if not one we were exactly clamoring for.
