Weekly Wrap

Must-read of the week goes to a guy who got stuck on the side of the road this year.

It’s a soup and comfort food weather out there folks – make some cabbage soup. Evan Benn of the Post-Dispatch has some sound advice for cooking with beer (and links to a recipe for mashed potatoes with roasted garlic and IPA). The City Museum of New York released an online catalogue of frequently stunning photographs of NYC bars and restaurants dating back to the 19th Century – go waste some time. I wonder if I can get Mrs. SMEs to Ragtag to watch Rare Exports. A new NASA simulator helps prepare astronauts for the rigors of an interview with Larry King. If you’re looking for a gift for that bread baker (or aspiring bread baker) in your life, consider this stoneware BreadPot. It’s custom-made for Lahey’s no-knead bread recipe and has produced outstanding results for me…highly recommended.

Finally, there’s so much weirdness in this video that it’s difficult to know where to begin. Have a great weekend.

  1. Word from somewhere in Rome that former events coordinator is seeking new position following dismissal from previous job at a big church. The source, wishing to remain anonymous, would neither confirm nor deny that the nun with the camera had offered the balancing act a position at her convent.

  2. What the al;slkjd was that? Thanks for sharing. This was the only thing more weird than the Pope’s $500 red shoes we read about some where else. I used to belong to that Church, so I can be snarky about it.
