Weekly Wrap

I’m going to put this up today since tomorrow I’ll be smoking massive amounts of meat at the Roots ‘n Blues ‘n BBQ festival. Stop by and say hi Friday night. Jackwagon BBQ be on fourth street across from Flat Branch Park…right about here.

Baetje Farms cleaned up at the 2010 American Cheese Society’s Annual Festival of Cheese and Awards Ceremony in Seattle, Washington, taking a slew of trophies from the prestigious event. Roast some chestnuts on October 16. A poignant new Tumblr page consists only of people dining alone (something I do all the time and don’t mind in the slightest). Thai food purist David Thompson is taking some heat for claiming Thai food needs a renovation (and his restaurant). And while I find Adam Richman likeable – and the show is throroughly watchable until he starts eating – I’m mostly with Alton Brown on this one: Man vs. Food is gluttonous and disgusting.

  1. Regarding the Richman thing, I think it’s entertaining. The guy eats stuff that would set dirty rags in a 10′ proximity on fire. I think the downfall of the show is that more and more people are going to flock to these places and order the same thing he’s ordering, or mimicking that behavior in their own local dives. I’m all about promoting Mom and Pop places, but honestly, we’re obese enough in this country without showing people what food challenges they can take around the country. I like to think that the intended product doesn’t really have a message, it’s just being put out there as pure look-at-the-fat-guy-eating-hot-sh*t entertainment. And I think most people that watch it would just just that out of it. At least I hope.

On a completely unrelated note, I once took the 2 Q’doba burrito challenge and ate 2 burritos totalling 2.5 lbs of food in just over 10 minutes.
