Roots ‘n Blues ‘n BBQ is really starting to piss me off

UPDATE: Roots ‘n Blues ‘n BBQ responded on Facebook. Contestants provide their own meats. We’re all friends again. Whew!

Jesus, May and Joseph, all I want to know is if meats are provided to Roots ‘n Blues ‘n BBQ contest participants or if we’re supposed to show up with our own. My guess is the latter, but I’ve heard of other contests providing the same meat to all contestants as a way of leveling the playing field.

I’ve emailed the bbq coordinator (twice), left a voicemail, tried Twitter, Facebook and even called Thumper Entertainment (full disclosure: Facebook try and Thumper call were this morning). I’ve heard nothing. Not one word back in more than two weeks. Very hard to begin preparing for the contest without this very basic question being answered. But still the crickets chirp. Though they do have my $250.

I do understand that many of the people running the festival are volunteers with day jobs and families to tend to. I get that and neither expected nor demanded an immediate response. But why are you doing social media, why do you even list contact info, if you’re not going to respond? Two weeks? Really?

  1. Scott,
I have done competition BBQ for 7 years now and have never done a KCBS contest which roots n blues is where they provided the meat. You can go to KCBS.org for more info on the contest. Hope this helps feel free to email me with any questions.

  2. Outstanding. That’s the way I’d prefer it anyway. Thanks to both and boo to Ryan for getting me started down this warpath. Wanker. 😉

  3. Hey Scott,
We are very sorry for the long delay. We try to get calls and emails answered as soon as possible, but with the volume that we receive, I’m sure you can understand how easy it is for things to get backed up. We apologize once again, and are excited to have you competing in the competition this year! Best of luck!

P.s. We are VERY happy we are friends again…

    All the best,
Your friends at the Roots N Blues N BBQ Festival

  4. Don’t blame me, blame my dad! Some contest he did in Sedalia a decade ago provided everyone’s meat and that’s tainted his memory I think.
