Downtown Diner

Pork tenderloin sandwiches are a reliable test for a diner. I just had a very good one at the just-opened Downtown Diner in Jefferson City. Good stuff.

  1. Hey, along “sort of” the same lines: in Columbia, co-worker and I tried the new Shotgun Pete’s BBQ Shack on the Business Loop in front of Firestone last Friday, opening day. Maybe it was a mistake to go there the first day because they were swamped and it took over an hour to get the food, but maybe he will get more efficient. Now to the food: the brisket I had could have been better. Some pieces were tender and fatty, some were burnt black and very tough and chewy. I will try the pulled pork next time. Friend said his ribs were really good which is a real test of good BBQ. They were served dry with sauce on the side. He said the hot sauce was REALLY hot. BTW, baked beans were very good as well, with good flavor and pieces of BBQ pork mixed in. We will go back.

  2. So good. The best “tater” salad i have had in a long time. I also had the Smoked Cheesebuger with just American Cheese and their BBQ Sauce. OMG – I was in heaven.

Friend of mine had the BBQ Sundae – Pit Beans, choise of meat (he had pulled pork) with bbq sauce and topped with slaw (could also have “tater” salad instead). He enjoyed it very much. Said we are DEFINITELY going back. And we will too. Already told multiple co-workers about it.

And when you first walk up or drive up you can smell the smoke……mmmmm.
