Back from the west

Coming out of the blur that was a bustling, carbon-spewing weekend in and around Kansas City. Some reactions and related thoughts:

“Disney on Ice,” not as unendurable as expected.

You can sit through many things if your kids are enjoying it.

Paradise Locker Meats, not quite as cool as expected.

Okay, maybe I expected too much. I did get a wild boar shoulder, after all. But they were out of a lot of things. It was 9am on Monday morning, so I’ll give ’em a pass.

Lulu’s and JP Wine Bar and Coffee House

Excellent Thai and tapas places in downtown K.C., respectively. When will Columbia get a charcuterie plate? And decent Thai food?

Jasper’s dinner last night, not as tasty as expected.

New rule: no more special, big-group dinners. The food at two recent events was far below what one would expect from the respective establishments. Attempting to make 50 helpings of pasta, pork chops, etc. invariably leads to food on the overcooked end of the spectrum. We’ll see if Outstanding in the Field can buck the trend in July.

Now it’s back to work, drained and fog-headed. Blah.
