The vagaries of weather

The last (?) truly cold weather pattern before fall has people who grow things worried. The kale I planted a few weeks ago is pale and at least dormant, if not on its way out. Obviously four tiny kale plants on the side of my house are of no real concern. For farmers, however, the next few days will be big.

  1. Latest from NWS:

THE NEXT MAIN WX STORY WILL BE THE COLD AIR BEHIND SUNDAY/S STORM AS A 1040MB STRENGTH HI…WHICH IS VERY IMPRESSIVE FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR…WILL RESULT IN MIN TEMPS THE NEXT FEW NIGHTS IN THE MID TO UPR 20S AND POSSIBLY RESULT IN A KILLING FREEZE FOR TENDER VEGETATION. NOT COLD ENOUGH FOR RECORDS…BUT WILL BE EERILY SIMILAR IN TIMING TO THE MAJOR KILLING FREEZE THAT OCCURRED BACK IN 2007.

    Not good.
