On close calls

I can’t stop looking at a chunk of concrete on my desk. On my way into work this morning this thing – probably four pounds and the size of a brick – came bouncing down the highway and smashed into the front of my car, denting hood and bumper and lodging next to the radiator.

I was going 75mph at the time. Had any of a hundred things happened – if I’d been driving my usual, shorter car, for instance – it probably would have been in the windshield, and likely, me. So, I’m glad to be eating spicy gumbo for lunch; glad to be eating period. And hooray SUVs.
