Mike Odette of Sycamore, a semifinalist for Best Chef: Midwest in the James Beard Foundation honors, did not make the list of finalists. That’s too bad, but it’s not like the guy lost out to Applebee’s.
He has spoken glowingly of St. Louis’ Niche – a finalist: “One of the best meals I’ve had in the last five years.” I’ve been personally wowed by another finalist, Bluestem in Kansas City. Two favorites from Washington, D.C. – Restaurant Eve and Obelisk – made the cut as well. So no slight to Sycamore, which turns out some of the best food in the region.
