El Jimador

Is there a worse place to eat Mexican food in Columbia than El Jimador?

(note: El Jimador is off of Clark Lane, over by Home Depot)

Three times I have given the place a shot and each time has been worse than the last.

Today I had an unrecognizable mass they called a pork tamale, covered for some reason with clumps of ground hamburger and a few kidney beans. Neither meat tasted, well, like anything at all. The “sauce” on top resembled most closely their Heinz kethup-style salsa and the novelty of eating cornmeal that tasted like granulated cardboard quickly abated as well. So I moved on to the crunchy taco, filled with the same hamburger from the tamale. No thanks. Alongside the taco was a “guacamole salad,” which consisted of shredded iceburg lettuce and a giant blob of pureed, lifeless avocado. The least offensive item was the chili relleno, which while lacking any spice whatsoever was least distinguishable from the mess of brown-grey refried beans in which it swam.

A disaster…consider yourself warned. Other nominations for worst Mexican food in Columbia?

  1. I am no great El Maguey fan. A lot of people like it for their greasy Mexican food fix, though. I’ve found their tacos asada to be okay, but there’s much better to be had in Columbia.

  2. I concur. El Jimador is not high on my list of quality MidMO-Mex food.

Taqueria el Rodeo and Carlito’s should be the only Mexican places allowed to multiply in this town.

  3. We also have an El Jimador at the lake , frankly, we hate it. They stick the same bland mess of stuff in different “shells” and call it something different. Come on, can’t fool all of us, save your money, Taco Bell is actually better and that scares me.
