Despite one hell of an paint scheme, the media love fest continues for Mississippi Fish Shack. And justifiably so. Despite some iffy service, everything I’ve had there has been top-notch.

Inspired by your blog post, I headed down to MSF on this gorgeous day for lunch. I was not at all disappointed. I had a shrimp po’ boy and fries. The po’boy was huge and I really didn’t need the fries (which were fine but just those frozen crinkle-cut fries that aren’t all that interesting). The seasoning on the shrimp was delicious.

Nice, I’m glad they didn’t let you down. The fries, as you note, are uninteresting. I sub out with greens, fried okra…something a little more fun.

I checked out the Fish Shack two or three weeks ago. The fried catfish was perhaps the best that I’ve ever had anywhere (although some I had in a po-boy in New Orleans earlier this week was a close contender); I haven’t tried Catfish Corner yet, but it definitely beat Glenn’s and Emmet’s.
The French fries were just fries; I thought the menu said no substitutions or I would have had the greens or fried okra or something as you mentioned. There was some talk back and forth on the late, lamented Trib Boards regarding the orange cole slaw. I wasn’t big on it myself, although it did tend to grow on me somewhat by the time I had finished it. It reminded me of the taste of both French dressing and thousand island dressing (although Ms. Kim assured me that it contained neither one), and I’m not a fan of either of them.
The blackberry cobbler was great! I intend to go back soon for some frog legs–haven’t had those in over 25 years.
